NATO-
April 4th ,1949 foreign ministers of 12 different countries in North America and Western Europe came together in Washington DC to sign the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization.) It was a form of security with article 5 being used which stated a military attack against any of the signatories would be considered an attack on all of them. The countries in alliance with NATO are Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and the US. The United States was content with the NATO and being tied into its security of the nations in Europe. The soviets on the other hand reacted by creating their own pact, which was the Warsaw Pact. The figures involved in NATO were foreign ministers who all signed the treaty and for the US a substantial figure was secretary of state, Dean Acheson.
